HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE WEEKEND
Planning the weekend is a little tricky. Here’s how to make the most of your time: Look over the calendar and pick what you’d like to take – also pick some backups on the off-chance your choices are not available. Note that some workshops run one and a half hours, some are three, so you need to mix and match accordingly.
You also need to make a reservation for the Friday night Special Event if you’re interested in attending that. Don’t be overwhelmed — be patient and prepared — our friendly office volunteers are here to help you! Call (323) 856-7736 starting Monday, June 30 at 10 am.
GREAT TIPS FOR THE WEEKEND
Parking is limited. We encourage you to use alternative methods of transportation if possible: bikes, carpooling, taking public transportation (the Hollywood/Western Red Line stop is only 4 blocks from AFI).
Be prepared for hot weather. Most of our classrooms are not air-conditioned and we have few fans. Dress accordingly.
We will have water for you. Bring a lunch! We hope to have food you can purchase but as we go to press, that has not been confirmed.
Some speakers will have books and/or CDs for sale. Bring cash or check (NO cc service available) if you would like to purchase them.
Bring pictures and resumes as some of our guests may want them. It is up to the discretion of each instructor or speaker.
Room numbers will be posted in or around the Warner Building, the Mayer Library Building and the Manor House on the AFI Campus on the days of the workshops.
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR THE SUMMER SEMINAR WEEKEND!!
As you have read, what a great weekend it’s going to be! Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 13 – but we can’t do it without you!! We need volunteers to help with parking, registration, setting up classrooms, helping with catering and our Friday night reception, as hall monitors, audio/visual helpers and many other areas.
We will try and accommodate you with classes you’re interested in attending and the position you might like to fill, however, that’s not always possible. If you accept a volunteer assignment, we need your commitment to that assignment.
Call the Conservatory Office at 323-856-7736 to volunteer. Please leave your name, e-mail address and telephone number and our Volunteer Coordinator, Talmadge Ragan, will get in touch with you!
RESERVATIONS SUMMER SEMINAR “BACK TO BASICS”
Sign up starting MONDAY, JUNE 30th.
Call (323) 856-7736 to make your reservations between 10 am-4 pm. (Reservations are accepted by phone only! Please do not stop by the office!)
When you call, have your Conservatory number ready along with your selection of workshops and your backup choices in case your first choice is filled. (Classes fill up fast!)
Because of the volume of calls and the amount of time we take with each caller (YOU!), we will not wait for you to find your Conservatory number, open, and paper once we are on the phone with you; you have to call us back when you are ready.
Once you are confirmed, highlight the workshops you are taking and bring The Focus and your Conservatory card with you.
NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A RESERVATION and late-comers will be admitted at the discretion of the instructor or proxy.
All instructors and guests are subject to their availability. We make every effort to provide substitute instructors with similar skills and experience to those listed in The Focus if need be.
